The Parental Rights in Education Act (HB ), commonly referred to as the Don't Say Gay law, is a Florida statute passed in that regulates public schools in Florida. The law is most notable for prohibiting public schools from having "classroom discussion" or giving "classroom instruction" [a] about sexual orientation or gender identity from kindergarten through 3rd grade or in a manner.
The "Don't Say Gay" moniker comes from critics of the measure who blast this idea and insist this policy will hurt LGBTQ children. DeSantis and other supporters gathered for the bill signing. Educators seeking clarification on what is permissible under Florida’s law banning instruction on topics of sexual orientation and gender identity got official answers, thanks to a lawsuit.
